For the past two years Joanne has volunteered as a design consultant for the first leed certified Habitat For Humanity house in Maine. The design goal was to meet the leed certification process and develop a model that could be used not only for the Habitat for future houses but utilized by the Maine State Housing Authority for affordable housing in Maine.
Some of the leed certified products used in the project included cement floors on radiant heating, local granite countertops (donated by Shawshank
Stone) and low
VOC paints by Sherwin Williams. The kitchen floors were chosen as a recycled
rubber and cork combination product, the bedroom floors are bamboo, both donated by Paul White Interiors. For more information on sustainable building design and Habitat for Humanity you can go the following sites.
